REDD+ Amazon Guardians

To implement the project, in late 2022 we helped form the Federation of Concessionaires of Madre de Dios (FECOMAD) on behalf of 6 associations, in order to establish a strong organization to protect the interests of the concessionaires' families.

We worked with FECOMAD and its environmental leaders to mobilize the most important Peruvian government agencies to generate a joint strategy to address the threats of deforestation (such as mining and illegal logging) that threaten the region's forests.

REDD+ The Last Habitat

The +20,000 ha protected under REDD+ The Last Habitat are home to an astounding amount of flora and fauna, including species such as the jaguar and other vulnerable species such as the tapir and the maquisapa monkey.

It also includes several valuable forest types, including +5,000 hectares of aguajales: wetlands with the highest carbon sequestration capacity in the Amazon. All this makes this an essential ecosystem for conservation, opening opportunities for scientific research on the biodiversity and value of the Amazon rainforests, and the development of local communities.
